Planning a wedding can be a stressful and overwhelming experience, but planning a Catholic wedding adds an extra layer of complexity. From the church requirements to liturgical details, there are many factors to consider. Here are ten tips for planning a Catholic wedding that will help make your special day a truly blessed and memorable experience!!

1. Start with the Church Requirements: Before you start planning the details of your wedding, check with your parish priest to ensure that you meet all the church requirements for getting married. These requirements may include completing a marriage preparation program, providing proof of baptism and confirmation, and meeting the church's guidelines for marriage.

2. Choose the Wedding Day: Catholic weddings can be scheduled on any day of the week, but depending on when you get engaged and the church you want to get married at, it's best to contact the church as soon as possible to ensure you have the date and time you desire.

3. Select Your Readings: Catholic weddings typically include three scripture readings, one from the Old Testament, one from the New Testament, and a Gospel reading. Work with your priest or wedding coordinator to select readings that are meaningful to you and your fiancé and fit the theme of your wedding. There is usually a list that you can choose from that the coordinator will give you, I would highly suggest to pray over some of scripture to resonate with their deeper meanings and how they can/will apply to your marriage.

4. Music Selections: Music is an integral part of the Catholic liturgy, and selecting appropriate music is important. Choose music that is sacred, reverent, and appropriate for the liturgical season. Particular churches offer options for what songs can be played during the mass.

5. Coordinate with the Church: Work closely with your parish priest and wedding coordinator to coordinate the logistics of your wedding ceremony. This may include arranging for altar servers, coordinating the procession, and selecting appropriate liturgical colors and decorations.

6. Plan the Reception: While the ceremony is the focus of a Catholic wedding, the reception is an important part of the celebration. Work with your wedding planner to select a venue, menu, and entertainment that reflect your personal style and Catholic values.

7. Involve Your Community: A Catholic wedding is a community celebration, and involving your family, friends, and parish community can help make your wedding day even more special. Consider inviting friends or members of your family to participate in the ceremony or help with the reception.

8. Plan the Rehearsal: A wedding rehearsal is an important part of the preparation process. Use this time to practice the ceremony, coordinate the logistics, and ensure that everyone knows their roles. A tip is to also make sure that your wedding party remembers to walk down the aisle slowly, so then your photographer can for sure get amazing shots of them walking down the aisle! It's understandable to feel nervous and want to walk quickly, but this can impact photo quality.

9. Prepare for the Sacrament: Remember that a Catholic wedding is not just a celebration, it is a sacrament!! Take time to prepare spiritually for the sacrament by attending Mass regularly, praying together as a couple, and seeking the guidance of your parish priest or spiritual director. As you and your fiancé grow closer spiritually, you'll be more prepared for marriage in regard to the spiritual aspect!

10. Remember the Vows: Ultimately, the most important part of a Catholic wedding is the exchange of vows. Take time to reflect on the meaning of the vows and the commitment you are making to each other and to God. The priest will tell you your vows and you repeat after him, but to know the value and significance of your vows will make it so much more special!

Planning a Catholic wedding can be a challenging and yet an exciting experience!! With these ten tips, you can ensure that your wedding day is a truly blessed and memorable celebration of your love and commitment to each other and to God.
